Nowadays people give more importance to the nutritional properties of their food intake rather than its taste. Earlier the white bread was invariably the most sought-after bread available in the market but after a recent health craze shift, there has been a surge in the number of people buying Brown bread. What is special about these brown bread over the regular white bread and why do people prefer them more? Let us see.

Nutrition

Brown bread is typically made from whole grain and is a more nutritious and healthy breakfast option than white bread. It contains high amounts of fiber, vitamin B-6, vitamin E, magnesium, folic acid, zinc, copper, and manganese, etc. On the other hand, white bread has less fiber but is high in calcium.

Manufacturing

When making white bread, the bran and wheat germ are removed from wheat flour, and then it is bleached with compounds such as potassium bromate, benzoyl peroxide, and chlorine dioxide gas. When these compounds are overexposed to the consumer it can create health-related issues like coughing, wheezing, and severe breathing problems.

On the other hand, while making brown bread, the bran and wheat germ are not removed from the wheat flour, due to which its nutrition remains intact.

Calories Comparative

White bread contains an extra amount of sugar and for this very reason, they contain many more calories than brown bread. If you include white bread in your diet, then make sure that you do not consume more than two slices a day.

Glycaemic Index

Diets with a low glycaemic index are healthy because they do not cause any spike in blood sugar levels. Brown bread has a lower glycaemic index than white bread. Which means it doesn't affect your blood sugar levels.

Special Takeaways

1. Not all brown bread is made from 100% whole wheat, so be sure to properly read the nutrition labeling on the packet. The first of these materials should be whole-wheat or wholemeal flour.

2. If the ingredients have caramel, it means that the white bread has been browned and is not the real brown bread you are looking for.

3. Always make sure that the bread has minimum ingredients. Fewer ingredients are directly proportional to less adulteration.
